Detransitioners – A European Tragedy
Join us for a raw and emotional journey through the struggles of detransitioners in Europe - a story that needs to be heard.
With the documentary "Detransitioners – A European Tragedy," French filmmaker Sophie Robert is no novice. She has already come a long way in making documentaries from the perspective of evidence-based psychology and psychiatry. Driven by her keen interest in discussions about the humanities with significant social implications, she has dedicated herself intensively to gender issues in recent years. This resulted in the three-part documentary "Transgenderism": "A Worldwide Epidemic", "A Health Scandal" and soon the final installment "The Hidden Side of Transactivism" (Les loups dans la bergerie). Sophie Robert does not shy away from the facts and shows the unvarnished reality and its impact on society.
Her latest production—a short film of just 40 minutes—premieres on Thursday, October 2nd: Detransitioners – A European Tragedy. To mark the premiere, ISOMER—a group of medical professionals who approach gender issues with an evidence-based approach—is organizing an online event in collaboration with the Belgian parent group Cry for Recognition. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with a group of experts, including two of the four detransitioners who testified in the film.
In the film DETRANSITIONERS – A EUROPEAN TRAGEDY, members of the European Parliament and the European Commission are featured. In their speeches, they argue that detransition is virtually nonexistent. That it's a result of social pressure and a lack of support, that transitioning is vital for suicide prevention, that self-determination is paramount, that hate speech and obstacles silence trans people, and so on.
In contrast, there are the sincere, heartfelt testimonies of detransitioners. The contrast couldn't be greater. Their stories—how they believed in transition, what brought them insight, and how they move forward with a damaged body—elicit our admiration and are a reality that needs to be heard.
After watching the film, you feel a sense of alienation. The words of the detransitioners resemble those of wise old men, and those of the Members of the European Parliament resemble those of jesters. It is the price they paid for a painful life lesson. What they sought and didn't find—love and security—was not met with transition. They discovered their naiveté and the lie that alienated them from their bodies. Why did no one tell them the truth? Where was love in the amputation of their healthy body parts? Where was love in the destroying of their sexual function? Where was the love in the war with themselves?

DETRANSITIONERS – A EUROPEAN TRAGEDY
The ideological capture of young people identifying as transgender is a phenomenon affecting all of Europe, particularly autistic and homosexual youth. This issue is fueled by well intended but naive postures made by certain parliamentarians at the highest levels of institutions. Studies are clear though: five years post transition, 75% of trans identifying youth choose to detransition. This film presents the testimonies of four homosexual or bisexual detransitioners from Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and France: Sabeth, Daniel, Tiresias and Luna must live with a mutilated body, yet they confront European parliamentarians with a clarity and wisdom about their journey that commands respect. Zoom interviews directed and edited by Sophie Robert With many thanks to:
Isomer, a Belgian association of professionals advocating for evidence-based medical treatments for patients with gender dysphoria. They question the social tendency to define gender identity as a characteristic that is completely separate from biological sex, as well as the current gender-affirming treatments that are often offered to these people. They advocate a respectful approach to individuals who report suffering from gender dysphoria.
Cry for Recognition was founded in 2021 as a support group for parents of a child with gender dysphoria. Our group was formed out of disbelief and outrage at how our children were unilaterally confirmed for medical transition, without serious investigation and without our stories as parents being taken into account. The name Cry for Recognition refers to a fundamental desire, the desire to be recognized. We believe that this lack forms the basis of the irrational desire to be someone else. Healing can only be achieved by learning to accept yourself, by regaining confidence in your dignity.

Glad detransitioners are finally getting some visibility with this film.
I would love to know— could the author post a link to the studies that show 75% detransition rate after a few years? For those of us fighting in our trenches, this would be a great stat to have in our pockets. Thanks!
