I completely agree, but as a clinical psychologist I am entirely comfortable with recognizing mental disorders while continuing to respect the patients as people. I am rather surprised to see so many people claiming that a valid diagnosis of a mental disorder is “stigmatizing.” The judgment against mentally ill individuals is in the minds of those who are making that claim, but for some reason they feel the need to project onto others what they themselves think.
