The Best of Genspect: The Duplicity of the American Academy of Pediatrics
What is the AAP's record when it comes transitioning children? We kept the receipts.
Yesterday, on the heels of the release of the US Department of Health and Human Services review of Treatment for Pediatric Gender Dysphoria: Review of Evidence and Best Practices by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) the American Academy of Pediatrics, AAP released a statement by current president, Dr. Susan J. Kressly expressing deep alarm and claiming that their policies and intentions were “cited throughout in inaccurate and misleading ways.” What are the AAPs policies and intentions? This week we offer a glimpse into the AAPs conduct around pediatric transition (and Genspect’s response) .
First, we kick it off with Dr. Julia Mason from the Bigger Picture Conference in Killarney in which she argued that the trust physicians and parents place in organizations like the AAP is unfounded given their poorly evidenced recommendation for the treatment for children diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
Next, Dr. Mason joins Stella and Sasha in Episode 128 of Gender A Wider Lens to discuss her relentless efforts towards charging the AAP to pursue a systematic review of the evidence behind gender affirming care.
Dr. Mason is a board-certified pediatrician, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a founding member of the Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine (SEGM)
