Resisting the New State Religion of Canada
A Turkish documentary explores the grassroots revolt against ‘gender identity’
“Canada's liberal policies on gender identity are reshaping the education and healthcare systems, but at what cost?” ask the creators of Gender Wars in Canada, a documentary by TRT World, which is essentially the BBC of Turkey. One might rephrase the question: how has gender ideology banished liberalism and its principles from every level of society in Canada, not least the education and healthcare systems?
Presenter Eren Doguoglu talks to six Canadian women with different stories: a detransitioner; a mother of an ROGD girl; a teacher put through administrative trials for opposing ideological indoctrination; a mother and a grandmother each raising awareness of ideological education; a therapist who does not “affirm” the gender of abuse survivors in her practice. They have been subject to social and political pressure, harassment, even threats of violence for speaking out.
Kellie was abused as a child and fled her femininity to escape male attention. She considered herself a trans rights activist and touted all the low quality “research studies” as evidence of transition’s supposed benefits. Harms were dismissed, for “as trans rights activists we did not care that this intervention was killing people.” Disillusionment led to speaking out, which led to the loss of every last friend Kellie had made in that world. “The last one left over this documentary,” she says.
Chanel Phahl has been through four different “investigations” because she disagreed with critical race theory. School administrators went the extra mile to damage her professionally. Without ever justifying these actions, “they make you know that you really have to shut up,” she says. Whereas Pride events and progress flags were optional years ago, when she was enthusiastic for those things, “now everybody’s got to do it.”
Belief in the magic genderwoo is mandatory. Blasphemies are punished. Canada has a new civic religion, a point the documentarians underscore with aerial and street views of crosswalks and buildings painted in rainbow “progress” colors.
Mother and activist Emily Duggan notes that under SOGI 1-2-3 education, even primary school math questions invoke sexual identities, while policies allow boys to “identify” into girls’ restrooms.
Tami Main lost her daughter to transgender medicalization, finding out only afterwards because “the Privacy Act basically prevents parents from knowing about their children or being included in their children’s lives.”
Terri, a retired prison guard, started ‘Mama Bears’ as the Covid vaccine mandates came down on schools. Gender indoctrination has become a central fight for parental rights. Public trust in “the authority of experts” has reached an all-time low. Her organization advises parents to ask questions and search the bookshelves of their childrens’ classrooms.
Terri mentions a childrens’ book in which a dog wants to be a cat. She may be referring to this book by Linda Laudone, a rhyming book about a cat and a dog that are friends. As Terri explains, however, a book does not have to be ideological to have ideological uses. Instead of challenging the book, parents need to ask the teacher what lessons they are teaching children with the book. Go deeper than the cover of the book.
A Pride flag is purely ideological, however. “I shake my head. Why do we have it in the school?” Terri asks. The fight against discrimination was already won. “It’s about sex. It’s about somebody’s sexual preference. Why do we have that in the schools?” she asks. “It’s not about gay rights. It’s about grooming.” She mentions the group Gays Against Groomers, which opposes gender ideology in schools, because resistance is nonpartisan.
Dr Ann Gillies is a retired trauma therapist in Canada. She “saw primarily adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse” during her career and saw that their “cross-sex” identities were rooted in trauma. She retired from private practice in 2019 to speak out.
“All we’re allowed to do as therapists is to affirm the child’s delusions. Because it is a delusion,” Gillies says. “It’s unrealistic to believe that you can actually become the opposite sex.” The cure is in fact the disease.
Gillies is the bookend to Kellie, the detransitioner, who found the Canadian court system stacked against claims of malpractice. In a society where gender ideology has replaced common sense at every level, no one can be held responsible for negligence, misconduct, lack of qualifications, or poor performance of “gender medicine.”
Gillies’s remark points to the patent medical fraud taking place under the rubric of “gender identity.” A crime is being perpetrated on Canadian families, so they are fighting back.
Turkey has not adopted the new civic religion of Canada. President Erdoğan recently declared that it “has turned into a form of tyranny, oppression and a means of corrupting society that surpasses even fascism.” What an irony that non-westerners can recognize the most illiberal program in the western world for what it is when the avowed liberals of the West cannot.

Excellent post. Yes in Canada where I live this is a serious social problem.
All I learned about Canada I learned from Turkish documentaries.
